On mastery

Our journey towards mastery is a process, one that encourages patience, commitment, and compassion.

Patience because getting real good at something takes time. We need patience to get us through those stretches where progress is slow but often feels likes it’s going nowhere.

Commitment because getting real good at something will be hard. When we find ourselves making excuses, we need to fall back on our commitment to the process and the value we seek to create.

Compassion because getting real good at something is bound to elicit head trash. We'll need self-compassion on those days or moments when we feel like an imposter, in over our head, and incompetent.

If we’re careful enough, we’ll notice that our journey toward mastery comes with a unique opportunity that extends beyond our desire to acquire and leverage a new skill. An opportunity to learn about ourselves and develop additional skills that are actually the catalysts for becoming better humans, neighbors, colleagues, and friends.
